Study periods
The Master is divided in 5 periods. The duration is 9 months.
The subjects of the first study period are:
- Introduction to NEMS/MEMS
- Introduction to the materials and to their mechanical properties
- Nanoscience and Nanotechnologies
- Electronic Systems
- Processes of the MEMS realization
- Introduction to BioMEMS
- Characterization techniques and Micro and Nano analysis
- Project Management
The first study period contains 230 hours and corresponds to 21 credits.
The subjects of the second study period are:
- From Research to Business
- Team management
- Legal and Funding
- Networking and Relationship
- Marketing
- Advanced Informatics
- Design and Prototyping
- Security
- Equal Opportunities in the employment contracts
The second study period contains 166 hours and corresponds to 9 credits.
During the third study period a student could choose between two specific areas of interests:
- Nano and Micro systems for the biomedical devises and environmental monitoring
- Nano e Micro systems for renewable energies and photonics
The subjects of the third study period within the thematic area “Nano and Micro systems for the biomedical devises and environmental monitoring” are:
- Environmental monitoring
- Electrochemical and gas sensors
- Bioelectronics systems
- Fundamentals of the Cell Biology
- Microfluidics for Diagnostic Microsystems
- Biochemical Systems Labs
- Gas and Electrochemical Sensing Labs
The subjects of the third study period within the thematic area “Nano e Micro systems for renewable energies and photonics” are:
- Photonics
- Optoelectronics
- Hydrogen Technologies
- Renewable Energies
- Photonics Lab
- Hydrogen technologies Lab
- Renewable Energies Labs
The third study period contains 200 hours and corresponds to 11 credits.
During the fourth period students will carry out a 400 hours stage in selected high-tech companies mainly on the territory, interested in short term specific projects in the MEMS-NEMS field. Students will carry out an autonomous work, which might include design and fabrication of a NEMS - MEMS device. The project should be approved by the lecturer’s board and each student will be supervised by a Master Professor and a company tutor.
The forth study period contains 400 hours and corresponds to 16 credits.
During the fifth period students could rediscuss some topics they missed in the previous periods, delve into the arguments they are interested in, have support for the Master thesis or exam preparation.
Final exam (Thesis preparation and Defense)
Students will discuss the results of their stage in a Master thesis which will be defended during a final exam (Master thesis presentation).
Credits
All didactic activities and personal study at home correspond to a total of 60 credits (CFU). Each credit corresponds from 8 to 10 hours of lectures, from 16 to 18 hours of laboratory sessions or to about 25 hours of seminar sessions.
